Performers

Luiz de Moura-Castro is a Brazilian concert pianist, master teacher, and adjudicator. He has performed in concerts and musical festivals in the United States, South America, Europe, Russia, Korea, China, and Japan. The French critic Pierre Challier has said of his performance in the Spanish Pyrenees: "When Luiz de Moura Castro plays Villa-Lobos, a perfect concert is played...it is superb."

He has served as associate professor of piano at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, head of piano department at the Juan Pedro Carrero Music School in Barcelona, Spain, Artist Teacher at the Pro Arte Seminarios de Musica in Rio de Janeiro, and teaches regularly in Fribourg, Switzerland, and the Escola de Musica in Brazil.

He founded the Brazilian Liszt Society in Rio de Janeiro and co-founded the Summer Musical Institutes in Girona, Catalonia, and Villaler, in the Spanish Pyrenees. He is a concert artist for Baldwin pianos, a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, and the American Liszt Society. As an adjudicator, he has served as juror for many national and international competitions, including those in Maryland, Canada, Rio de Janeiro, and Girona.

He has attended and been a master teacher of the National Pedagogy Conference in Chicago. De Moura Castro is also a prolific recording artist of composers such as Liszt, Chopin, Villa-Lobos, Bachianas, and Ginastera in the United States, Brazil, Switzerland, and Spain. He has released CDs for the Euterpe, Ensayo, and L'Art labels.

Luiz de Moura Castro will be giving a recital and master class featuring the music of Brazil and Argentina on October 27 and 28, 2000.
