Celebrating Three Centuries of People and Pianos



Burnett Thompson attended the Hochschule fuer Musik in Vienna, Austria, and is a graduate of the New England Conservatory. He studied further with Alan Schiller in London and William Masselos.

He has been the artistic director of the Foggy Bottom Chamber Music Society, was the House Pianist for the West End Cafe from 1981 to 1997, and musical director for the Phillips Collection's annual musicale, for which he also produced the "Piano in Washington" in collaboration with the Paley Exhibit in 1995.

As a jazz pianist, he has performed with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, at the Renwick Gallery, and recently with trumpeter Arturo Sandoval at the Kennedy Center. He has appeared as a soloist with Washington Chamber Symphony, the Arlington Symphony, the Tallahassee Symphony, and the Greenville Symphony, and recently composed and recorded his Piano Concerto No. 1, commissioned and performed by the National Chamber Orchestra
